Welcome to Mannankulam’s Villas, a collection of extraordinary dwellings that embody the evolution of Sri Lankan architecture. From the elegant colonial homes of the early 19th century to the charming country houses of the 1950s, the vibrant tropical designs of the 1960s, and the contemporary tropical architecture of Anjalendran, who collaborated with Geoffrey Bawa in the 1980s, our villas represent a rich tapestry of architectural styles.
Staying in our villas allows travellers to engage more intimately with the culture and lifestyle of Sri Lanka’s diverse regions, each offering unique experiences. Located in picturesque Akkaraipattu and Batticaloa on the East Coast, as well as Colombo and Battarmulla on the West Coast, our properties serve as the perfect base for exploration.
Each of our experiences includes a stay in one of these personal homes, along with a unique culinary offering and engaging moments with beautiful surroundings and intriguing local knowledge. The homes are good examples of Sri Lankan architecture from early 19th-century colonial architecture, 1950’s gracious country house, 1960’s tropical design to the latest contemporary tropical architecture of Anjalendran, who worked and collaborated with Geoffrey Bawa in the 1980’s.
Through our series of Mannankulam experiences, we hope to provide travellers a more mindful and culturally immersive way to experience a way of life in unique locations on the east coast, which we have a deep and personal history with.
